He’s also from Texas. So, he has a certain moral authority to talk about the recent devastating floods and horrific loss of life.
Here’s what he said about some progressives posting their criticism of “voting for Trump” leading to the unnecessary flooding deaths.
But what exactly is Lambert talking about? Who is “gloating” or celebrating, and what exactly are they saying?
To be clear, here are some examples of the types of posts Lambet finds to be disgusting.
Okay, the example on the right is pretty offensive. It makes light of the tragedy.
The example on the left, though, seems pretty fair to me.
Is it too early to connect the governance of MAGA/DOGE to the deaths of 80+ people and counting in a flash flood?
It depends on how you do it.
If you’re turning the situation into a joke (“Ruh-roh Texas”), then you’re very much forgoing empathy and chipping away at your shared humanity. You deserve to be called out for it.
But it’s never too early to connecte the dots between DOGE firing 500 staffers at the National Weather Service, including those who would normally communicate with local officials to get the warnings out, and the failure to get the warnings out.
Elections have consequences. People need to experience consequences before they’ll wake up and stop voting for politicians who demonize Democrats, immigrants, and trans people to win elections and slash taxes for the wealthy.
Which means they need to hear how the dots connect. They need to see the straight line running through Trump to Musk to DOGE to NWS cuts to a delayed communication of a flash flood warning.
But always, the truth should be spoken with and in love.
I agree. Mocking hurting people is exactly the issue many of we progressives have against the MAGA crowd, but pointing out how Trump's and Musk's foolish budgets impacted the ability of the weather service to effectively do is job is fair game.
